Pellet fired boilers require facilities for pellet storage, just as oil burners require oil tanks. Pellets are stored in various ways from small, fabric-sided containers set up in the basement, to silos either in the basement or outdoors, to basement rooms dedicated solely to pellet storage. In some installations these rooms can hold enough pellets to heat an average home and provide its domestic hot water for a year or more.  Frequently, pellets can be purchased more cheaply in large quantities, so you might want to consider the largest storage option that makes sense for you.

A 250 gallon oil tank filled with #2 heating oil contains 34,700,000 gross BTUs of heat energy. Two tons of pellets would contain roughly the same heat energy and would occupy 100 cubic feet.

Augers or moles feed the pellets from bulk storage to the small storage container on the burner.  These augers can be flexible for complex runs to the burner, or rigid, for straight runs.  The augers offered by MESys are extremely high quality augers used in large properties and hospitals in Europe.  They ensure safe, reliable movement of the pellets from bulk storage to the burner.
